Motor Speech Disorders
Motor speech disorders, including dysarthria and apraxia, involve impairments in the muscles used for speech production. Symptoms may vary based on the location of the neurological impairment and can impact rate of speech, loudness, quality of speech, and movement of the muscles needed for speech including the face, tongue, palate, and vocal cords. Speech therapists focus on improving the coordination, strength, and control of these muscles to enhance speech clarity. We serve patients who have acquired and developmental motor speech disorders, including: Parkinson's Disease, Cerebral Palsy, Stroke, Traumatic Brain Injury, etc.
