About Our Services
About Our Services
Speech therapy helps individuals improve communication, feeding, and swallowing skills. It addresses challenges with speech sounds, language understanding and expression, social communication, voice, fluency (stuttering), and more.
We provide therapy across the lifespan — from toddlers to adults. Whether your child is learning their first words or you are recovering communication skills after a stroke, we can help.
We treat a wide range of conditions across all ages. For children: articulation and phonological disorders, language delays and disorders, childhood apraxia of speech, autism spectrum disorder, stuttering and fluency disorders, social and pragmatic communication challenges, feeding and swallowing difficulties, and augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) needs. For adults: aphasia, dysarthria, motor speech disorders, voice disorders, cognitive-communication disorders, and swallowing difficulties.
Signs Your Child May Need Therapy
Signs Your Child May Need Therapy
Common signs include not babbling by 12 months, not using single words by 16 months, not combining two words by age 2, difficulty being understood by unfamiliar listeners by age 4, or struggling to follow directions. Other signs include frustration when trying to communicate, limited vocabulary compared to peers, or difficulty with social interactions. If you have concerns, a free consultation with one of our speech-language pathologists can help determine if an evaluation is appropriate.
There is no minimum age for speech therapy. Early intervention, often starting as young as 6 to 12 months, leads to the best outcomes. The earlier communication challenges are identified and addressed, the more effective therapy tends to be. We work with children from infancy through adulthood.
While every child develops at their own pace, a 2-year-old who is not yet using words or combining two words together may benefit from an evaluation. Some late talkers do catch up on their own, but research shows that early intervention produces significantly better outcomes than a wait-and-see approach. We offer free consultations to help you determine the best next step.
Signs include refusing to eat certain textures, gagging or choking during meals, taking an unusually long time to eat, limited diet of fewer than 20 foods, weight loss or poor weight gain, coughing or wet voice quality during or after eating, and significant stress or anxiety around mealtimes. If mealtimes are consistently difficult, a feeding evaluation can identify the underlying cause.
Occupational Therapy
Occupational Therapy
Speech therapy focuses on communication skills including speaking, understanding language, and social communication, as well as feeding and swallowing. Occupational therapy focuses on fine motor skills, sensory processing, self-care skills, and the ability to participate in daily activities. Many children benefit from both services working together.
Occupational therapy addresses fine motor skills like handwriting and using scissors, sensory processing challenges such as sensitivity to textures or sounds, self-care skills like dressing and feeding, visual motor skills, coordination and balance, attention and self-regulation, and the ability to participate in school and play activities.
Signs that your child may benefit from occupational therapy include difficulty with handwriting or using utensils, avoiding certain textures in clothing or food, trouble with buttons or zippers, frequent meltdowns in busy or loud environments, difficulty sitting still or paying attention, delayed milestones in self-care like dressing or grooming, and poor coordination or balance compared to peers.
Getting Started
Getting Started
In many cases, no referral is needed to start therapy. However, some insurance plans or funding sources may require a physician's referral. We can help you determine what is needed for your specific situation.
You can reach us by calling 713-669-8635, submitting an inquiry via email at info@MilestonesMatterTx.com, or visiting our office. We will guide you through the intake process and help you schedule an initial evaluation.
Your first visit includes a review of medical, developmental, and educational history, standardized assessments and clinical observations, a discussion of your goals and concerns, and a recommended plan for therapy if appropriate.
We typically conduct 30-minute therapy sessions.
The duration of therapy depends on several factors including the severity of the condition, prognosis, how well skills carry over outside of sessions, attendance consistency, motivation and engagement, and frequency of sessions. Your therapist will discuss expected timelines during your initial evaluation.

Therapy Process
Therapy Process
Most clients attend 1 to 2 sessions per week, combined with consistent home practice. Your therapist will recommend a frequency based on your individual needs and goals.
Yes! Family involvement is a key part of our approach. We believe caregivers are the experts on their child, and we actively involve families in therapy through observation, coaching, and home practice strategies so progress carries over into everyday life.
The total length of therapy varies from person to person. Some individuals may need just a few months, while others benefit from longer-term support. We conduct regular progress reviews and adjust the plan as needed to ensure we are always working toward meaningful outcomes.
Adult Speech Therapy
Adult Speech Therapy
Yes. Speech therapy is a key part of stroke recovery. Our therapists work with adults experiencing aphasia, which is difficulty with language after a stroke, as well as dysarthria, apraxia of speech, and cognitive-communication challenges. Therapy can improve speaking, understanding, reading, and writing skills. The best outcomes come from starting therapy as soon as possible after a stroke.
Yes. We are a certified provider for the SPEAK OUT! program by the Parkinson Voice Project. This evidence-based program specifically addresses the motor speech difficulties that many individuals with Parkinson disease experience, including soft voice, mumbled speech, and difficulty being understood. We help patients maintain and improve their communication abilities.
We treat a range of voice disorders including vocal nodules, vocal cord dysfunction, muscle tension dysphonia, spasmodic dysphonia, and voice changes related to aging, surgery, or neurological conditions. Treatment may include vocal hygiene education, voice exercises, and techniques to reduce strain and improve vocal quality.
