Apraxia (Acquired and Childhood Apraxia of Speech)

Apraxia is a motor speech disorder where individuals have difficulty planning and coordinating the movements necessary for speech. Acquired apraxia can result from brain damage, while Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS) is present from early childhood. Speech therapists work on improving motor planning and speech coordination for effective communication.  Apraxia is diagnosed by a Speech Language Pathologist. Treatment of Apraxia requires very specific and skilled intervention and therefore you should consider choosing a therapist who is specially trained in this area. Several of our therapists have experience using Dynamic Temporal Tactile Cueing (DTTC) as well as the K-SLP approach.
