May is Better Speech and Hearing Month, and we are thrilled to celebrate the incredible field of speech-language pathology and all the people it serves. Did you know that 1 in 10 people will need the support of a speech-language pathologist at some point in their life?
The Diversity of SLP Work
Speech-language pathologists do so much more than help people "talk." Our work spans the entire lifespan, from the tiniest premature babies in the NICU to older adults recovering from strokes. SLPs work in:
- Early intervention for infants and toddlers with developmental delays
- Articulation and language therapy for school-age children
- Feeding and swallowing therapy for children and adults
- AAC (augmentative and alternative communication) for those who communicate in nontraditional ways
- Voice therapy for professionals, singers, and those with voice disorders
- Cognitive-communication therapy after brain injuries, strokes, and neurological conditions
Our Team's Dedication
At Milestones Matter, our therapists go above and beyond the therapy room. They attend continuing education courses, stay current on the latest research, collaborate with other professionals, and most importantly, they truly care about every family they serve.
Behind every session is hours of planning, data collection, and individualized goal setting. Our team works to understand each person as a whole, not just the diagnosis on paper. That dedication is what makes the difference.
Celebrating Communication in All Forms
This month, we celebrate every form of communication: spoken words, signs, gestures, pictures, devices, eye gaze, and everything in between. Communication is a fundamental human right, and every person deserves to be heard.
Whether your child just said their first word, your parent is relearning speech after a stroke, or you are exploring AAC options for the first time, we are here for you. Every voice matters. Every milestone counts.
